    • This has led patients to question whether they will be able to get vaccinated at the same time as they flood NYC medical practices with reports of the telltale signs of Covid.

If this summer had a theme in New York’s tech scene, it was undeniably AI, AI, and more AI. 🤖

  • With record-breaking funding rounds, major corporate expansions, and headline-grabbing product launches, NYC added more weight to its case as the epicenter of applied AI.

Now that we’re past Labor Day, let’s recap the biggest AI moments of Summer ’25:

🚀 Big money, big momentum:

  • $1.86 billion raised in July alone — NYC startups brought in 21.6% of all U.S. VC funding, according to PitchBook.

  • Runway, a leader in generative media (and Tech:NYC member!), raised $308 million in Series D funding at a $3 billion+ valuation.

  • $100 million+ club: NYC-based tech companies Dataminr, Clay, and Eight Sleep each closed $100 million+ rounds this summer, fueling real-time intelligence, go-to-market AI, and even sleep optimization.

🗽 The NYC AI advantage: According to new research from Tech:NYC and Accenture:

  • In just one year, AI adoption by NYC companies jumped from 55% to 78%, with AI-related job postings up 120%. 📈

  • Nearly every executive surveyed (99%) plans to hire more AI talent in the next 12 months. 💪

  • Over the last 12 months, 84% of execs have already upskilled employees into AI roles, and 91% say doing so improves retention. 🧠

🏢 Institutional power plays: AI is popping up everywhere in NYC.

Bottom line: This summer was both a hot one and a foundational one. NYC’s AI ecosystem is here, it’s leading, and it’s defining what responsible, applied AI looks like in the real world.
