New York’s June 23 Primary: What you need to know (Tech:NYC)

  • New York's 2026 Primary Election is almost here, with early voting beginning tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, and Election Day on Tuesday, June 23. 🗳️

    • Not sure who’s on the ballot? Or even where to vote? We’ve got you covered here. 🫡

    • A reminder: Tech:NYC does not endorse candidates in elections. Our goal is to encourage civic participation and help New Yorkers make informed decisions at the ballot box.

Manhattan’s red-hot office market poised for its best year since 2000 (Wall Street Journal)

  • The Manhattan office market is on pace this year for its best leasing performance in over 25 years, thanks in part to AI companies. 🤖

    • AI firms leased 1 million square feet of Manhattan office space in the Q1, more than the space leased by AI firms for all of 2025.

These reservations are impossible to get. Except during a Knicks game (New York Times

  • An interesting side effect of Knicks fever: With everyone crowding into watch parties around the city, New York’s toughest restaurant reservations are suddenly up for grabs, and foodies are taking advantage. 🍝

    • Spots like Carbone and Via Carota, which are usually booked weeks in advance, are seeing last-minute cancellations during Finals games by diners trading white tablecloths for watch parties in bars, parks, pizzarias, bodegas, and even funeral homes.

NY and NJ are hosting the World Cup. The real party is along the 7 train (NPR)

  • The 2026 World Cup has come to MetLife Stadium in NJ, but for many New Yorkers, the real action is in Queens. ⚽

    • The 7 train, known as the “International Express,” runs through immigrant neighborhoods like Flushing and Corona, where soccer culture is part of daily life year-round.

    • During the tournament, these communities transform into global fan zones with pickup games, jersey shops, and watch parties.

From NYCHA to the Garden, the Knicks’ Jose Alvarado is living a New Yorker’s dream (Gothamist

  • Jose Alvarado, a Brooklyn native who grew up in public housing, is now playing on the NBA’s biggest stage for his hometown team (as if we needed another reason to cheer for the Knicks). 👏

    • His journey has resonated across the city, especially in neighborhoods where young players now see him as proof that a path from local courts to the pros is possible.
