Secure bike parking is coming to all five boroughs. The NYC Department of Transportation selected mobility company Tranzito to build and operate a new citywide network of secure bike-parking stations — at least 500 units, the largest system of its kind in the U.S. 🚲🔒 (amNY)
Tranzito, which has run systems in the Bay Area, Portland, and Minneapolis, will begin work in May, with the first stations expected in the second half of 2026.
The system aims to support both current riders (including delivery workers) and New Yorkers hesitant to buy a bike without secure storage.
Great job locking up your trash, NYC! Rat sightings reported to 311 have dropped for 12 straight months — an overall decline of more than 20%. 🐀 (PIX 11)
The drop follows new trash rules that started last November requiring buildings with 1-9 residential units to use sealed bins.
All NYC businesses have also had to use sealed bins for the past two years.
And now, all food waste — from homes and businesses — must be placed in sealed containers, meaning more than 70% of NYC trash is mandated to be in containers.
Happy Giving Tuesday! The global movement that began as a 92nd Street Y hashtag in 2012 has grown into one of the biggest fundraising days of the year for U.S. nonprofits. 💙🤝 (NBC New York)
A new federal charitable deduction allows most tax filers to deduct up to $1,000 (individuals) or $2,000 (married couples).
If you want to support a worthy cause but aren’t sure where to start, here’s a (partial) list of nonprofits Tech:NYC’s Decoded Futures works with to consider supporting today and any day.
