Tech is driving the NYC economy, according to our report with the Center for an Urban Future, adding jobs at nearly 10 times the rate of the city’s overall economy since the start of the pandemic and accounting for a whopping 14% of all employment growth citywide over the past decade. 💪 (The CITY)
Tech has become New York’s largest and most dependable source of new middle- and high-wage jobs.
In the last decade, the tech sector added an average of 8,000 jobs a year across the five boroughs.
Yes, you read those figures correctly. 🤯
In June, Tech:NYC launched Obviously NYC during New York Tech Week as a rallying cry for the city’s tech sector. Seeded by NYCEDC and designed by Red Antler, Obviously NYC is a brand and a movement — both a celebration of, and a call to, founders, funders, and talent building their futures where industries and innovation converge. 🧑💻 (Bloomberg TV)
It fuels a culture of tech-forward innovation in partnership with the city’s founders, policymakers, and investors.

Launched last year by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Empire AI (championed by Tech:NYC) is a bold partnership between New York’s public and private universities to establish a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence computing center, housed at the University at Buffalo. 🗽 (Bloomberg TV)
An additional $90 million was allocated to include three new consortium members this year, bringing the consortium to 10 total members.
Total investment now exceeds $600 million across state funding, member contributions, and private and philanthropic support.
Empire AI continues to be the national model for responsible AI innovation — and it benefits every corner of New York’s economy. 💸

The Capital of Everything: New York Tech’s 2025 Wrapped
What a year, New York. 🗽
From new tech innovations to Brooklyn waterfront AI demo nights, 2025 cemented NYC as the place where every industry and every algorithm meet.
📊 By the numbers:
203,000+ tech jobs citywide, with AI job listings leading the nation.
2,000+ AI startups and 40,000 AI professionals powering everything from fintech to climate tech.
$28 billion raised by NYC tech companies in 2025 — an 8% jump from 2024.
$15.84 billion of that went to AI companies alone (+50% year-over-year).
Tech companies now lease 17.8 million sq. ft. in Manhattan, including 486,000 sq. ft. taken by AI firms this year.
$13 billion flowed into NYC fintech, healthtech, and physical AI/robotics.
🤖 AI is obviously NYC’s main character: It’s the connective tissue of the city’s economy.
With more than $600 million in state investment through Empire AI and thousands of AI-focused roles across finance, media, health, and real estate, New York is doubling down on its edge as the global capital of Applied AI — where tools get tested on real problems, at real scale.
Tech:NYC in the mix: This year, Tech:NYC focused on turning that momentum into action:
Obviously NYC launched as a shared banner for the city’s tech community — a badge for founders, funders, and talent who are building their futures here. 🚀
Programs like NYC AI Demos, FutureReadyNYC, the Grid Fellowship, and Decoded Futures are expanding the pipeline so that early-stage founders, students, and nonprofits can all plug into the city’s AI-driven growth. 📈
You can dive into the astounding impact of Decoded Futures in the Decoded Futures Annual Report here.
“There’s no better place to build the future than New York City — and that’s never been more obvious,” Tech:NYC President and CEO Julie Samuels said. “From Broadway to Wall Street, every industry’s epicenter can be mapped to NYC. And in this town, tech connects everything and everyone.”
And we’re not slowing down: 2026 will mark the 10th anniversary of Tech:NYC’s launch. Stay tuned for celebrations throughout the year. 🍾
