The union plans to open the National Academy for AI Instruction in the downtown Manhattan headquarters of the United Federation of Teachers, starting with hands-on workshops for teachers this fall on how to use AI for tasks like generating lesson plans.

On a related note, no, your eyes did not deceive you, and yes, there was a giant pigeon sailing through the Hudson River and New York Harbor today to promote the New York City Football Club.
Subways 🤝 ACs (sometimes). Can you guess which subway line received the most air conditioning complaints from 2020-2024? Tech hiring in June was good news all around, as tech employment and active job listings rose and the tech unemployment rate fell. 💪
🔢 By the numbers:
Tech occupation employment (which includes companies in all industry sectors) increased by an estimated net new 90,000 workers last month.
The tech unemployment rate fell to 2.8% in June from 3.4% in May.
Active employer job listings for tech positions reached 455,341 in June, with 47% of the total added just last month.
Yes, but: The unemployment rate for recent college grads in the U.S. has been above the national level consistently for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
🤔 What employers want:
For job postings, demand was strongest for software developers and engineers (45,753 job postings), systems engineers and architects (18,796), tech support specialists (14,052), cybersecurity engineers and architects (13,562), and network engineers and architects (9,118).
There was also growth in employees seeking a wide range of positions that require some degree of AI fluency skills, as job listings for this category increased by 153% year-over-year in June.
Hiring for dedicated AI specialists, such as AI architects or AI engineers, is also growing rapidly.
🗽 What about NYC?
NYC had the second most tech job postings in June, compared to other metro areas, with 13,374 job postings (+565 from May), narrowly beaten out by Washington, D.C.
Overall, the rate of NYC job growth is higher than New York State and the U.S. over the past year.
