  • NYC’s first community-led and cooperatively owned solar project, Sunset Park Solar, has been installed in Sunset Park. 😎 (Brooklyn Paper)

    • Around 200 Sunset Park families and businesses will benefit from the project, gaining access to clean and reliable electricity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and lowering energy bills by 20%.

    • Revenue from the 45,000-square-foot installation will go into a community wealth fund to support additional solar projects.

  • It’s Restaurant Week somewhere. And as of yesterday, that somewhere is right here in the Big Apple! NYC Restaurant Week kicked off yesterday and will actually run longer than a week — till August 17. You can snag deals from over 600 restaurants throughout the five boroughs. 😋 (Patch)

    • Check out all the participating restaurants here.

  • Mayor Eric Adams announced today a new Drone Operations Committee to help spur innovation and coordinate drone operations across city agencies. 🛸 (Harlem World Magazine)

    • The effort expands on the city’s existing drone programs, which include deploying drones as first responders and monitoring city beaches for sharks and distressed swimmers.

One of NYC’s strengths is its ability to attract and retain tech talent. (And one of our priorities for the 2025 mayoral election is to keep this momentum going through housing and livability investments!) But how do we stack up on the national stage?

What’s 🆕: A report from LinkedIn shows NYC boasts one of the largest pools of entry-level tech talent in the nation — thanks not just to its scale, but to the depth and diversity of both its technical workforce, and multi-industry ecosystem.

  • 🗽 NYC has the second-highest share of tech talent in entry-level roles, and by gender, is a fraction of a percentage behind Boston.

  • 📈 Entry-level tech talent job postings were up 9.7% last month from 2024.

Yes, but:

  • The LinkedIn hiring rate for tech talent in NYC decreased by 4.3% year-over-year in June for entry-level roles and by 3% for non-entry-level roles.

  • Non-entry job postings slid 30.1%.

📊 Hiring data by the numbers: NYC’s superpower lies in its diversified economy, which hosts a mix of top employers across several industries.

  • The top employers of NYC tech talent are Google (1.1%), Bloomberg (0.9%), Amazon (0.8%), JPMorganChase (0.8%), and Meta (.6%) (all Tech:NYC members!).

  • The fastest-growing occupations advertised are computer engineering, cybersecurity consultant, and applied scientist.

  • The fastest-growing skills are “system configuration,” “easily adaptable,” and “Revit.”

🧑‍💻 There are resources that help tech talent find jobs in the sector, like, cough cough, the Tech:NYC Jobs Board:
