Series A Season Hits Full Swing

Powered by Obviously NYC, presented by Gunderson Dettmer and PwC US.

As the leaves turn brown, the term sheets turn green. 🍏 That’s right, NYC’s Series A scene is still heating up.

This month’s Series A: A Series adds 24 new companies that just crossed that crucial milestone, two dozen proof points that New York’s innovation engine is both humming and accelerating. 🚀

  • All told, that brings the total number of NYC Series A raises we’ve tracked since June to 85 and counting.

Here’s what’s catching our eye from September:

🤖 AI goes deep (and specialized): NYC founders continue to define the frontier of applied AI.

  • Companies like Cassidy AI (autonomous sales ops), Markup AI (content and brand moderation), and Predoc AI (clinical documentation) show how the city’s AI startups are moving from general-purpose hype to real-world utility.

  • This mirrors what NYCEDC’s AI Advantage report calls “Applied AI” — using AI to solve industry-specific problems across finance, health, and security.

🏥 Healthcare’s next wave:

  • Startups like Neura Health, Seven Starling, Birches Health, and Axon Therapies are tackling everything from women’s mental health to addiction recovery and chronic pain.

  • They join NYC’s broader surge in health innovation — a sector that now accounts for nearly 20% of city jobs.

🔒 Cyber & infra on the rise:

  • Companies like Terra Security and SpiralDB point to renewed investor interest in infrastructure — cloud, data, and security.

  • In a year when AI adoption is skyrocketing, demand for safe, scalable systems is fueling a new layer of enterprise tech built in NYC.

🌱 A broader mix — from fintech to future of education:

  • Startups like Kredete (credit infrastructure for African immigrants) and Utila (digital asset infrastructure for fintechs enterprises) reflect the enduring power of fintech in New York.

  • Meanwhile, Centari is rethinking deal intelligence, and Outsmart College is rethinking higher education — themes that keep NYC’s tech ecosystem diverse and resilient.

🗽 Why it matters:

  • Across these 24 new Series A companies, we see the signature New York blend: global problems, real customers, and no fluff.

  • From AI-powered bio labs (Glyphic Bio) to crypto cybersecurity (Cloudburst), these founders are building businesses that scale and stick.

💼 And yes, they’re hiring: All together, this month’s Series A cohort is posting 75+ NYC-based roles, from engineers and product designers to GTM and data specialists.
