NYC's mayoral election is underway with early voting. Here's what to know before hitting the polls. 🗳️ (CBS News)
ICYMI (aka you haven’t read our Digest this week!): Early voting is underway through Sunday, Nov. 2, with Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Voters will pick the Mayor, Public Advocate, Comptroller, Borough Presidents, and City Council members, and tackle several ballot questions (overview of those here).
Haven’t checked your registration or polling place yet? You can do that here.
You can also check out the wait times at each polling location here.
I decided to run a marathon. Then I did something crazier. I let ChatGPT be my coach (Wall Street Journal)
When the NYC Marathon kicks off this Sunday, expect Wall Street Journal reporter (and upcoming marathon runner) Isabelle Bousquette to be prepared. And she credits much of that preparation to AI.
Over the course of her months of training, she writes, “he (it?) advised me on everything from pacing to strength training, gear, stretches, nutrition, playlists, and how to handle the scourge of blisters.”
But, she says, the best advice she got was from a (human) running coach: At the end of the day, it’s just running. 🏃
‘Wicked’ star will perform in two Broadway shows Sunday after running New York City Marathon (ABC New York)
Broadway's Jordan Litz is through accepting limits ’cause someone says they’re so.
On Sunday morning, he’ll join 50,000+ runners in the NYC Marathon (FYI the best places to watch are here).
Then, on Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening, he’ll play Fiyero in Wicked on Broadway.
The only thing that could make his day more quintessentially New York from our POV? Voting early. 🗽
How one neighborhood engineers the ultimate Halloween spectacle (New York Times)
If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by West 69th Street, between Broadway and Central Park West. The block transforms into an open-air museum of Halloween art.
It’s “part haunted carnival and part design showcase,” dating back decades, with prizes now on the line for the best-decorated buildings. 🧙
New York is best for Halloween, according to new study 🍫 (Forbes)
No surprise here: According to a new study, New York City is the place for Halloween, boasting the most candy stores per capita, second-most costume shops, and the highest number of Google searches for “Halloween parties.”
U.S. households are expected to spend $13.1 billion on costumes, candy, and decorations this year, averaging $114 per household.
Meanwhile, this newsletter editor is expected to spend much more than that because he can’t resist eating the candy before trick-or-treaters arrive. 🫠
Happy Halloween, New York! 🎃🗽
