New York tech leaders are trying to unseat San Francisco for the future of the industry (Business Insider)

  • While California still leads in startup funding, New York is the obvious place to build and grow a tech company.

    • Take it from Tech:NYC President and CEO Julie Samuels: “Once you build that technology and you're ready to figure out who you're going to sell it to, who's going to pay you for it and use it in practice, and how someone who might not be deeply technical will interact with it, what some of the regulatory concerns are — I feel all of those questions will be answered here in New York.”

Skilling up from K-to-Gray (Microsoft)

  • At “Family Code Night,” a TechBuffalo initiative supported by Microsoft (a Tech:NYC member!), families code side by side using Minecraft Education and Microsoft’s Generation AI curriculum. 🧑‍💻

    • What began as a 15-person pilot has now reached over 500 participants across 18 sessions.

    • Take it from Cory McCants, Community School Navigator at Say Yes Buffalo: “Their curiosity is a seedling that can grow into this giant tree of knowledge, and finding out what they want to do in life, which will most likely be in the tech world.”

Meet the Brit mapping NYC, one story, block, and bike ride at a time (The CITY)

  • Following the success of his 5,000 sq. ft. illustrated map of London, artist Dan Ryder is setting out on his next challenge: drawing a huge map of NYC. And he’s taking suggestions for what to include.

    • Why New York now? Take it from the artist himself: “New York loves itself, as does London. I love that about it.”

Showing the 'Love': At 'Love Island' watch parties, NYers have a clear favorite (Gothamist)

  • Sports bars across the city are filling up with fans attending “Love Island” watch parties. When the season finale airs this Sunday, you can expect most of those bar patrons to be rooting for New York City-native Amaya “Papaya” Espinal.

    • Take it from Kevin O'Hanlon, co-owner of  the Malt House, which has weekly viewing parties: “New York people get behind New York people. That’s the one thing I love about this city.” ❤️

20 NYC facts that are completely crazy but entirely true (Secret NYC)

  • Did you know that 700+ languages are spoken in NYC? Or that the city’s population is larger than that of 38 U.S. states?

    • The best NYC fact for beach day? Take it from us: Statistically, you’re 10 times more likely to be bitten by a New Yorker than by a shark. 🦈

Stay hungry, New York! 🗽
